SUM 11: Day 4

Isaiah 26:4-10 and Deuteronomy 6:4-6

“All night long I search for You; in the morning I earnestly seek for God.” Have you ever been on a Snipe hunt? What a thrilling event! There is nothing like going into the woods at night to catch the elusive Snipe, armed with nothing but a grocery sack and your wits. To catch a Snipe, you have to be quick. You also have to be good at calling one to you, like a turkey hunter would call a turkey. But instead of gobbling, you simply call out “snipe.” Usually the higher-pitched voice you use, the better! Of all the times I’ve ever gone Snipe hunting, I’ve never caught one. I’ve come close a few times, but they always get away. This is probably why you don’t see stuffed Snipes hanging on walls or proudly displayed in homes. They are elusive!

Unlike a Snipe, God is not elusive. When we seek Him, He answers us! Each time I look for God, I find Him. That’s a better percentage than anything else I do in life.

Read: Isaiah 26:4-10. Now read Deuteronomy 6:4-6.

Pray: Thank God for his love and kindness. Thank Him for being closer than any friend. Ask Him to teach you how to seek Him in every area of your life.

Do: Meditate on these passages today as you seek God.

SUM 11: Day 3

Psalm 119:9-16

How can a young man, or woman, keep his way pure? By meditating
on God’s Word.

There is a teenager in India who is said to have been meditating for the majority of his short life. He is said to sit in the bottom of a hollowed-out tree, where he receives no food or drink. Instead, as it is said, he receives nourishment from the universe as he meditates.

How about you? How much time to you spend alone with God’s Word? How often do you ponder what God’s Word means? Psalm 119:9-16 says the only way to keep your way pure is by meditating on God’s Word. A simple way to describe meditating is “thinking about something.”

Pray: Thank God for His Word. Ask Him to help you develop a desire
to continually meditate on His Word.

Do: Think about God’s Word often today. Find ways to keep God’s
Word on your mind!

SUM 11: Day 2

Matthew 6:19-34 and Matthew 5-7 (for more)

7 days a week/24 minutes a day: Listen slowly! Think deeply! Pray
fervently! Obey faithfully! I love a good steak dinner. One of the best
I’ve ever eaten was at a steakhouse in Kansas City. It was served on
a plate that had a temperature of 500 degrees. The steak had butter
sizzling around it. And the steak was just like an M&M: it melted in my
mouth! YUM! It was not the kind of steak you eat as fast as you can. This
steak was the kind of steak you savor as you enjoy each bite. The flavor
was unforgettable! I think I ate steak for almost an hour, and the last bite
was just as good as the first!

I’m asking you to savor God’s Word like I did that steak. Go slow. While
reading, listen closely for God’s voice as He points out things in Scripture
to you. Look deeply into God’s Word. Don’t just pass something by
because you are in a hurry or because you don’t seem to understand
something. Pray fervently. In other words, mean what you say and put
passion into your prayers. Obey faithfully as you walk away from God’s
Word do what is says.

Pray: Thank God for His Word. Ask Him to help you obey what His
Word teaches you. Ask Him to help you serve Him alone and no other
master. Ask Him to remind you of Matthew 6:19-34 each time you
become anxious.

Do: Serve God today through the way you spend your time. Serve God
through the way you handle stress. Serve God through the way you treat
other people.

SUM 11: Service and Notes: Day 1

Houses are built on firm foundations. Lives should be built on THE only firm foundation, God’s Word.

What did Jesus say would happen to those who heard His words and did them?

What is the importance of building a house on a firm foundation?

How is building a house on a firm foundation like building your life on a firm foundation?

7 days a week/24 minutes a day
1. Listen slowly!
2. Think deeply!
3. Pray fervently!
4. Obey faithfully!

Challenge: Spend time reading God’s Word, praying through God’s Word and memorizing God’s Word each day this summer.
